Why I Practice

My purpose in practicing acupuncture is simple: to offer you a safe, effective, time-tested, and affordable path to healing. I specialize in helping people heal from chronic pain.

I go in-depth about why chronic pain persists, who my work is for, how it works, and what you can do to speed up the healing process in this article:

Chronic Pain Relief in Boone, NC: Acupuncture and Bodywork That Restarts the Healing Process

The Experience

Each treatment begins with quality downtime: a settling-in period that gently guides your body into a receptive, healing state. Point locations are chosen with precision, tailored specifically to your individual needs.

Acupuncture is remarkably effective at supporting the body's natural healing process. And while needles are involved, they are extraordinarily fine - so thin, in fact, that 8 to 10 solid stainless steel acupuncture needles can fit inside the bore of a single hypodermic needle. Most people barely notice their placement and find the experience deeply relaxing.

Because acupuncture treats the whole person systemically, it often produces what I call "side benefits": conditions begin to resolve that weren't even the original reason you came in.

Your First Visit

An initial appointment runs approximately 75 minutes. We'll talk through your concerns, and I'll "listen" to your pulse and palpate acupuncture channels as part of a thorough diagnostic evaluation.

Treatment may include acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, and electroacupuncture, as well as complementary modalities such as Tui Na (East Asian bodywork), cupping, gua sha, and moxibustion - whatever combination best serves your healing.

"When I do acupuncture, the client doesn't always fall asleep....

but when they do, I know it was a good treatment."
— Tom

Part of what makes acupuncture so restorative is its ability to "reset" the nervous system, shifting the body out of stress and into a

parasympathetic - restful, healing - state.
